The Million Dollar Theater

It is an honor to present THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW at the historic Million Dollar Theater!

HISTORY

Built in 1918 by Sid Grauman, who later went on to open the Egyptian Theater and the world-famous Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd, it was one of the first and largest movie palaces in the United States. A hundred years later, it still boasts a fully operational 35mm reel projection system, the stunning ornate architecture typical of Grauman's style, and over two thousand seats.

The theater has been restored and finally reopened in 2008. It is as grand and thrilling a performance venue as ever. It is still being gradually improved thanks to efforts of its owner, Robert Voskanian, and the love of its downtown community, particularly through the Los Angeles Conservancy and Bringing Back Broadway.

Bringing Back Broadway partners the City of Los Angeles with Broadway property owners and helpful volunteers to revitalize what was once LA's primary entertainment mecca. Begun in 2008, this ten-year plan promises to unearth the incredible treasures that still stand on the long-neglected street. Clean sidewalks, vibrant trees, space for street performances and snacks, and even a San Francisco style streetcar are all in the works.

The Million Dollar Theater, the first theater palace on Broadway, is one of the first to reopen and to run grand special events like ours. RHPS35 is proud to be a part of this revitalization.
